Apr 14, 2023

The Australian Government has released the independent review of Inland Rail, confirming the project is important to meet Australia’s growing freight task, but is facing significant delays and cost pressures.

The Independent Review was announced by the Government in October 2022 and undertaken by Dr Kerry Schott AO.

In a statement issued 6 April 2023 the Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Catherine King, and Minister for Finance, Senator Katy Gallagher outlined immediate action would be taken to implement recommendations of the independent review and get Inland Rail back on track.

Dr Schott’s report makes 19 recommendations to improve the delivery of the Inland Rail program including through enhanced governance arrangements, the identification of intermodal terminal locations, and ensuring appropriate environmental approval processes.
