Small towns across regional Australia are delivering big outcomes, often with limited resources, small teams and complex local challenges.

Presented by Economic Development Australia and the SEGRA Foundation, this online webinar will explore how small communities are using practical, place-based approaches to strengthen local economies, support housing, grow tourism and build community confidence.

The first webinar in a four-part Regional Webinar Series, Small Towns, Big Impact: Economic Development Lessons from the Regions will feature case studies from Nannup in Western Australia and Quilpie in Queensland, two communities taking creative, grounded approaches to regional development.

Speakers will share insights into how small towns can leverage local strengths, build momentum from the ground up and deliver projects that support long-term economic resilience.

The webinar will include:

  • Lessons from Nannup’s transition from a timber milling community to a growing trails, cycling and events destination
  • Insights from Quilpie’s response to housing pressures, including investment in new dwellings and land release
  • Practical strategies for delivering economic development with limited resources
  • Replicable approaches for small towns looking to back their strengths and plan for the future.

This session is designed for economic development practitioners, local and state government representatives, business support organisations, researchers and anyone interested in the future of small towns and regional economies.
