The buzz around Nancy-Bird Walton Western Sydney Airport (WSI) is growing, with Qantas, Jetstar and Singapore Airlines set to take flight from this game-changing hub. Add to that the construction of a 24-hour Cargo Precinct and recent runway testing milestones, and the momentum is undeniable. RDA Sydney, as part of the Forum on Western Sydney Airport (FoWSA), recently attended an update to learn more about what this means for the region’s connectivity, jobs and economic growth.

- In November 2024, DITRDCA released the Final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), which will be presented to the Minister of Environment & Water for comment in early December before proceeding to the Minister of Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts (DITRDCA) for approval.

- Once the EIS is approved, the detailed technical design phase will commence and be led by Air Services Australia (ASA).
- During this phase, ASA will launch a community engagement strategy on the design of the flight paths and is due to commence early 2025.
- It is envisaged that ASA will present the findings to the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) mid 2025 to enable the implementation of airspace plans mid-2026 in preparation for airport opening at the end of 2026.
- WSA Co, the Airport Operator, reported that the terminal is 88% complete, airside 91% and landside 83%.
- The airport’s Experience Centre has welcomed almost 100,000 visitors and provides information about the soon-to-open world-class airport and the many services offered to support the aviation sector as well as retailers, freight, cargo and logistics firms.
